Endangered Species: Individual Spirituality
Ima post this here, because I think it's important.
This is an edited excerpt from a letter I recently wrote to an organization I was considering joining. I hope that it makes you squeeze a brain cell or two for the better. It is something that I think everyone should be thinking about on some level.
"...The other point that I have considered, regarding the whole political conversation, is that the journey of spirituality has become political itself. It is my strong belief that consumerism is replacing spirituality in America, and when the economic structure of an entire country is reliant upon such replacement, the right of the individual to seek their own spiritual path becomes endangered; and also politically charged. Are you willing to defend this right if need be? Are you interested in addressing this development at all? What kind of lifespan do you want your right to creativity and spirituality to have, and what will you do to ensure its longevity in this current environment?
Being in touch with your feelings doesn't help the GNP.
Does embracing my spirituality, my feelings, my inner sense of connection to the universe make me un-patriotic?
And I guess this is where we run into the patriotism conversation, so this is where I end mine.
